Services
Technical Assistance
Schools and districts building safe, culturally and linguistically responsive learning environments all begin at different places on a learning curve, depending on their prior experiences and training. CCE team members work with staff and administrators to learn the principles and tools to support implementation of practices to support all learners.
Examples:
- Teacher action research. Customized inquiry process design, empowering educators to reflect on, improve, and/or refine their practices for serving ELLs.
- Assessment for ELLs. Design support to create and align assessments with the best practices for assessing ELL students.
Professional Development
Programs and services designed to help build skills and awareness of the challenges facing learners—and educators—in 21st century classrooms.
Examples:
- Coaching. One-to-one and group support for educators, administrators and other leaders designing and implementing services for English Language Learners.
- Mini-course: Data-Driven Instruction for English Language Learners. As part of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) offerings, a 15-hour professional development opportunity offered as a Rethinking Equity and Teaching for English Language Learners (RETELL) Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement extension option.
